The History of Grafting

The process of grafting stems back to 2000BC. People from both Ancient China and biblical times were using this practice.

The Romans used it as an agricultural practice.

The Chinese used grafting to improve the fruits taste and yield.

Grafting is still used today.

Mostly for growth rate and vigour, as well as disease resistance.

Different fruit varieties crop at different times of the year, so having several types on one stem can ensure a longer fruiting season.

Trees that need pollinators will be grafted to other pollinators that provide it with what it needs.

A grafted tree has the potential to be more disease-resistant, because the rootstock (roots) repel the viruses.
